Motor knocking on HGJAB, HGJAE, HGJAC ? Maybe Not!
Do you have a Marquis Gold or Commercial Mobile HGJA? that has a terrible sound like a rod knocking? I have found that on these belt drive systems, the pulley that is connected to the flywheel will waller the sleeve where it slides on the tapered crankshaft. This sound resonates through the engine and resemble a rod knock. You will need to replace the flywheel and pulley as they are beyond repair once it gets to this point. Still cheaper than a $1300.00 engine!

As mentioned in my reply to your inquiry, Onan RV Generators have the following warranty:
The limited warranty covers virtually everything except routine maintenance for the first two years you own your RV generator set, and covers parts and labor on major power train and generator set parts during the third year. In addition, it also includes a free 90-day adjustment policy, which provides that Cummins Inc. will make minor adjustments during the first three months you own it – free of charge! Please note: This 3-year limited warranty applies to RV generator sets used in RV applications only, and does not apply to RV generator sets used in commercial mobile applications.
With the following warranty statement, everyone should understand that a RV generator is covered under the warranty ONLY if it is installed in an RV. If it is used in any application such as, concession trailer, race trailer, etc, the Onan warranty will be as follows:
Cummins Onan RV generator sets used in commercial applications for a period of one (1)
year or one thousand (1,000) hours, whichever occurs first, from the date of sale to the first retail purchaser.
You can use a Commercial Mobile model in any application and its warranty is as follows:
Cummins Onan Consumer Commercial QD Series and SD Series diesel generators and QG Series Models HGJAD, HGJAE and HGJAF gasoline generators manufactured or supplied by it will be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of two (2) years or two thousand (2,000) hours, whichever occurs first, from the date of purchase by the first retail purchaser. QG Series Models KY and KV are covered for one (1) year or one thousand (1,000) hours. Selected drive system parts for the HGJAD, HGJAE and HGJAF are covered for five (5) years. Selected components are: belt, tensioner arm, pulley assembly and coupling.
If your unit is not under warranty, a replacement belt runs about $16.00. Standard Repair Time is 1.5 hours plus removing and re-installing the generator.
I will email a breakdown for you to get an idea of what is involved but I do recommend checking the warranty status first.

Hi - can you forward the additional details you mention above?
I have a 6.5 HGJAE-2145 that has sounded like it has rocks in it for some time... and the drive belt btwn engine and alternator just gave out last nite. I'm trying to determine if I can perform the repair myself of need to bring it into a service center. Thanks!
